Am still thinking about this movie. On fiuther reflection, I think Damien Chazelle's #Babylon would have been brilliant as a limited TV series.
Each of those characters had an interesting journey that could have been explored in more detail. E.g. Jean Smart, who I had only previously seen in FX's Legion, was amazing as the gossip columnist. She gets much more credit here from her fellow actors than in the movie itself. https://youtu.be/Pm2fEoeXkV8
The manic segments, including the big party scene and other similar ones, could have been retained, and would have been balanced against more introspective, exposition pieces.
After much fiddling with Outlook permissions, we have finally managed to email some 50 schools to invite them to #UCLChemAirPoll for autumn round of measurements. If you know of a (preferably Inner London) primary school that would like to participate in an air pollution measurement project, tell them to get in touch with us. We'd love to learn with them! https://uclchemairpoll.wordpress.com/
#Movie review of "#Babylon" (2022)
Really enjoyed Damien Chazelle's "Babylon" last night, a loving look at early Hollywood. Full of laugh-out-loud moments and just cracking performances from everyone.
BUT. The critics are right, it tries to do too much, with too many characters, at times is a bit too messy. Where it features lots of homages, you might struggle to pick any one iconic scene here that would make it into a future homage.
If anything, they could have reduced this film and done a second, with the parallel story of the Black Jazz trumpeter. There was one scene in particular for him where the movie just froze on a difficult choice to be made. His movie could have shown his side of the same period. Discussed here with that actor, Jovan Adepo: https://cassiuslife.com/627171/jovan-adepo-babylon-blackface-scene-exclusive/
[Spoilers]
(Personal gripe, scenes are often distractingly out of focus. This happened with First Man as well.)
This is a credible proposal for DRM for websites in general. It would enable unbeatable adblock-blocking. It would prevent user customization for not just convenience but also accessibility.
I do not say this lightly: Enabling the forfeiture of control over the browsing experience is a fundamentally evil idea that must be rejected now, as it has been in the past, and we must remain vigilant against its reemergence in the future.

Reminder #Music fans, last chance to catch sessions from this year's #Glastonbury on BBC iPlayer. These expire next Tuesday.

If the reports oh his arrest are true this is likely part of the larger post-Wagner mutiny crackdown. Stelkov-Girkin represented nascent pro-war opposition to the Kremlin. Attempts to consolidate power by the Kremlin continue.
"#Oppenheimer is 600 pounds of 70mm #IMAX film, and it wouldn’t work so well on-screen if it weren’t for a 21-year-old #PDA." #RetroTech

Wow, this is big: Igor #Strelkov / #Girkin detained and charged with extremism in Russia

He has a lot to answer for in how the #Ukraine war started in 2014 - a former officer (likely of #GRU background) occupied #Sloviansk in the #Donbas with a couple of dozen men and started the armed conflict, with #Russia 's covert then overt support
And mainly he was behind the shooting down of #MH17 - convicted by a Durch court
Yesterday, German news channel Deutsche Welle (dw.com) published a new documentary on YouTube: "Poverty in Britain - Why are millions of Brits so broke?". It's a 42 minute piece documenting the state of things in Britain today.
Here's the thing:
The URL is https://youtu.be/BK68yyrKUOA - except that if you are trying to watch it from the UK, you're faced with this message: "Video unavailable"
I am currently outside the UK, which is how I got to see this film. If you have access to a VPN, use it.
New video!
