Meanwhile Bullrich camp have "Good feelings" about the results.
But it's still the most uncertain election since the return to democracy 40 years ago, a sentiment shown here and voiced by an older citizen earlier in the broadcast.
Polls have closed and each camp is claiming victory to an extent. Milei says he's won with 36% ahead of Massa at 30%. Massa saying they are top with 30%. Bullrich saying second place behind Massa.
45% will win today, or 40% plus a ten point lead. Or it will go to the next round.
Milei at the moment is confident that he will be president based on their exit polls.
Absolutely manic scenes (to UK eyes) as Florez emerges from her house to go vote, and the poll station is closed to everyone else. "We're supposed to be equals" one guy complains. Milei also turns up at his car and is surrounded by reporters.
Less than an hour left to the polls closing in #Argentina and this is quite entertaining to watch. I'm reminded how much I loved being a temporary Porteño. A roving reporter wanders round the crowd in Recoleta neighborhood, where the girlfriend of Milei, the ultra right wing candidate, lives. The street's been closed by the police.
Voting here is mandatory, up to the age of 70, and seen as a national holiday to an extent. One guy dressed up as Iron Man to vote. Another guy (Milei supporter no doubt) made himself a headpiece with a chainsaw. The distinctive orange and white school buses are co-opted to carry the ballot boxes to the counting centres.
Not sure if they do exit polls as we do here, but it'll be at least another 3.5 hours after voting ends before we get the first results for #Decision23.
Watching the situation of the elections in Argentina.
As of last week, the Bolsonaro-like, Vox-friendly, rowdy Austrian-economist, vulgar libertarian anti-Pope Javier Milei was narrowly leading the polls. Milei has the backing of Wall Street vultures, and his vicepresident candidate Victoria Villaruel is an advocate for criminals of the argie dictatorship who ruled Argentina between 1976-1984, among them convicted murderers, rapists, and literal baby kidnappers.
How retro kick ass is that? Flash is resurrected sans the neglected, proprietary, security ridden, plugin bs of Adobe; thanks to Rust, and modern day sandboxed WebAssembly. No plugin required; small, compact, compatible engine, that unlocks decades of lost SWF content in all its vector visuals, MP3 stereo, and ActionScript-y glory. https://github.com/ruffle-rs/ruffle #flash #adobe #webdev #javascript #rust #retrogaming
Polls are open, and unless anyone's got a better alternative, this news station is covering the day. Accompanied by pop music that's possibly a little too loud, though I did chuckle when one presenter sang "Nos vamos a votar" to "Another one bites the dust".
Lot of rain about which might affect voters in some regions.

Not really hitting the news here but #Argentina are holding presidential elections today. The front runner appears to be a scary fascist clown, promising to Make Argentina Great Again by... shutting down the government.
That said, accounts of the past can be more or less **accurate** and more or less authentically grounded in **archival evidence,** and more or less conversant with the state of existing knowledge about the past. Those things matter and enable us to distinguish between better or worse histories.
But ultimately, history is a story with protagonists and antagonists, with storylines with moral power that trace triumphal, tragic, or ironic arcs. Who and what we choose to remember from our past will always be selective, we can never just keep "everything that happened" in our mind at one time.
So saying to schools "stop being political with how you teach history and just teach kids what happened" is an incredibly ignorant thing to say. No one who actually understood what history is could ever say those words with a straight face. It is itself a radically ideological vision of history.
Every now and then, I receive similar feedback when teaching medical students public health or medical anthropology concepts! We're "too political, teach facts not an agenda."
To which I quote Virchow: "Medicine is a social science, and politics nothing but medicine at a larger scale."
New Substack post from me on the memory culture into which I (and large numbers of other Americans) was socialized in the late 20th century. Why did I learn nothing about the history of American fascism and the resistance to it?

#Milei2023
The fascist neo-liberal anarcho-capitalist presidential candidate has close links with #BlackRock.
For years, this vulture fund has been waging an economic war against our country.
Larry Fink and company even attacked us during the first year of the current #COVID pandemic. They don't give a damn if we stay alive.
Dartford Crossing payment system still "in beta" and janky af. If you're a very occasional user you can end up in a limbo where the crossing doesn't appear anywhere... but you still get a PCN if you don't pay!
Previously had that dropped I think because they just didn't have time to work out what had gone wrong. Not sure they've yet fixed the bug, or more likely the disjointed processes.
For decades, astronomers have dreamed of setting up an observatory on the far side of the Moon. I read about it as a kid. Now it's happening!
The LuSEE-Night radio telescope is under construction, and is scheduled to land on the lunar farside in 2025. It's a pathfinder for a much bigger radio telescope that would follow. https://newscenter.lbl.gov/2023/09/26/listening-to-the-radio-on-the-far-side-of-the-moon/ #space #nasa #science
