Let’s start with something controversial: Capitalism is not an economic system. It is a philosophical and ideological force that shapes our lives, environment, and perception of humanity.
Here's @pluralistic explaining Word of the Year "enshittification" at UCL last year. With a panel chaired by @leotanczt.
Man this feels like a long time ago!

Don't think there's much more to learn from armchair expert observations of the #Haneda collision, but I've always found the reports fascinating.
They show how diligent and thorough the investigations are, as well as everyone and every aspect of the systems involved in #aviation.
The analysis of the aircraft equipment, crew resource management, passenger behaviour, airport layout, inspections and procedures all contribute to understanding where the "Swiss cheese" holes lined up. Anyone interested in #Safety and especially #Space should take a read through such reports.
I see te UK Govt. is now trumpeting that it has joined #Horizon & what a great opportunity for #research this is.... while conveniently 'forgetting' that they took us out of the programme in the first place & then spent three years arguing about how to re-enter before finally acquiescing to the EU's original conditions for becoming part of the programme.
Three lost years, entirely caused by #RishiSunak & the #Tories wrecking impulse
This is Orwellian in its disruption of the truth!
Who do we suddenly talk about our lives as “seasons”? And if you didn’t share a cinematic highlight reel, did 2023 even happen?

Tokyo crash - imagery analysis
Now there's an extended clip of the landing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NbVdIoJsHY
Seems more likely the A350 landed almost on top, with some damage on the nose from the Dash-8 propellers and the main explosion from the engines going through the wings. Must have been just to the side else even the pilot wouldn't have survived.
Tokyo crash - imagery analysis
I lack time/skills to crop and annotate this clip which I referred to above. We can see the right wing strobe light from the Dash-8 hit the ground off, then a frame later the A350 landing light drops. About 5 frames later the explosion starts. https://youtu.be/Oy4RIvRcwUo
Tokyo crash - imagery analysis
Again, someone will do a more accurate version of this, but we can see how the right wingtip of the Dash-8 is just at the nose of the A350, whilst A350's engines are larger than the diameter of the Dash8. A complete rear-end would have shown much more damage on the A350.
Likely the A350 nose hit the wing, span the Dash8 to the left and the A350 engine also just caught the wing. There's little other damage on the A350 left wing that would suggest a collision with the rear stabiliser.
Tokyo crash - imagery analysis
Quick comparison of the two aircraft that collided at Haneda. Shows how it was possible for the A350 to have relatively little damage immediately after the collision (collapsed nose, dent on the left wing, no damage down the left side of the fuselage).
In the absence of mm accurate radar and black boxed, analysis of the landing lights just before collision will be key.
20 years ago I saw the rave scene I was a big part of increasingly get divided and slowly get infiltrated by alt-right/anti immigration types because folk wanted to be "apolitical hedonists" - it led to the scene becoming increasingly cisnormative and male dominated (leading to violence occuring at events) and splitting along racial/ethnic lines, to the point the cops were able to clamp down on it more successfully - there's a hard lesson to be learned from that..
@vfrmedia @Andrea @HauntedOwlbear
This is why it's so important to push back hard against people who want everything to be "apolitical." At best, it's someone who doesn't realize they're being played as a useful idiot and, at worst, it's a bad-faith actor trying to soften up a space for a rightward push.
Yay. 2024. Perhaps a slightly less shit than last year with the prospect of #GTTO.
Lovely news to end the year. Anna's been fantastic over the past couple of years for bringing attention to #organ #music. She's produced some wonderful recordings and collaborations. All kicked off with that Incredible performance with Bonobo.

Is it possible to establish an egalitarian democracy under conditions of multiracial, multi-religious pluralism? Or will the reactionary mobilization succeed in imposing its ethno-religious nationalism and entrench white Christian patriarchy as the “real America”? 19/
The USA are forwarding a plan to the G7 to confiscate Russian assets in the West. Around 300 billion USD are currently frozen.
I have been saying this in the past that this is an untapped source of funds. There is also legal basis to confiscate that money as you can retrieve from the screenshot. The UNGA voted overwhelmingly in favor that Russia will have to pay reparations for the damage of the unprovoked war in Ukraine which Russia started.

I own 11 books on how to be a software engineering team lead or manager. At a guess, they total 900K–1M words. Exactly zero of those words are about working in the public sector or cooperative enterprises; *all* of them assume the reader is a for-pay employee of a for-profit company navigating unchangeable structures controlled by other people. I wish I knew enough to write something better—to say that yes, there *are* viable and rewarding alternatives to the Silicon Valley greed machine.
Just another worried little citizen of this modern-day Pompeii. Techie at UCL, working on Process Automation with MS Power Platform. Scatterbrain, interested in education, languages, Space and lots of disparate things. sorry.
