Yucky pool filter

The joys of homeownership. Our pool needed work when we bought our house so we had the previous owner close it. Which to them meant poor a bunch of shock into the pool and call it a day. 😂

Here is our diatomaceous earth filter without the diatomaceous earth(apparently the filter should look white). It looks like each aspect of the pool will need some work to get going again but overall it is in good shape considering the lack of maintenance.

@derickflorian yeah, DE isn’t usually black either.

Yucky pool filter

@ColeOnRails yeah, according to the person who closed our pool it should have been white. It sounds complicated though so we will probably switch to a sand filter next year. It sounded like an easier option

@derickflorian If your DE filter isn’t broken, I would probably stick with it for one season to see how it goes. DE provides better filtration. Pool systems aren’t very complicated. I ran commercial pools before i transitioned to software. If you have any questions, I can try to help but I am not familiar with the smaller systems. My main piece of advice for anyone dealing with pools is to avoid dealing with just “pool” stores when it comes to parts and supplies.

@derickflorian the markup can be outrageous and you can get a lot of the same exact parts and supplies from other vendors in plumbing or industrial services.

@ColeOnRails ok, yeah, the person who serviced our pool last night seemed to be reasonable and recently pivoted from diving instructor/diving in pools to find leaks. I am waiting for a quote from her as basically everything was done wrong. Probably the craziest part was there is an electrical outlet beneath the pool shower 😮.

Hopefully the quote is a little reasonable and we can get a few competitive quotes. So far we probably need a new liner, pump, filter, resleeving gas line, replacing the worn out concrete pad in the mechanical shed with gravel and paver stones….or the pool becomes a garden bed haha!

Yucky pool filter

@derickflorian oh yikes lol. That is a lot, I’m sorry.

Yucky pool filter

@ColeOnRails hehe, we knew the pool needed work. Luckily it’s not as bad as digging an entirely spot for the pool. Thanks for the advice though! :) I will see based on what is recommended the cheapest way to get it!
