Environmentalism has a good side: Its basic metaphysics is rational. Environmentalist statements are of the form "This is true," not "This is what we want to be true." Imagine if the metaphysics of the rest of politics were applied to the environment. Does it make sense to say "I can choose whether or not global warming is dangerous"? Unlike some other activists, environmentalists usually assume that there is a real world. Pointing out that they are wrong about the details seems like quibbling.
