#MastodonClients - Desktop Linux client first impressions:
#Whalebird:
+ (some) keyboard navigation, (some) customization
- heavy (Electron), little bugs (keyboard scroll-down far enough and it randomly takes you to the top of the timeline)
#Tootle
+ Beautiful visual design, quick buttons for favourites, lists, etc.
- No keyboard navigation, archived project (no updates)
#Tokodon
+ Quick to load, everything happens snappily
- pretty barebones, barely any customization
(part 1 of ?)
Have you tried #Sengi ?
It's also heavy because Electron but it's really practical.
Only things missing imho is ability to label accounts, and ability to have multiple hashtags in one column.
I used a Japanese client before (can't remember its name) who was quite good too but UI was quite ugly.
@lienrag
Yeah I came across Sengi, but it doesn't work for my instance (Qoto). Apparently some configuration issue, so I'm talking to the admin about it. Thanks for mentioning it!
@digital_carver Check the github of tootle, (the network). There is a fork by spaetz that he updates. I managed to compile it and use it for a while, but it started Segfault-ing and I can't seem to find where it keeps it's settings. I cleaned up the gsettings, but now I have a client that is in a weird state of attached to an account, but without the oath token, so it's not functioning at all. When it worked (the libsoup3 branch), it worked rather well. If you know where tootle keeps it's settings under linux, so I can wipe them, I'm all ears
@digital_carver I've stuck to the web version precisely because there isn't really an app that does it all for me. I really do like the thee-column layout that the web version has anyway.
