How the fuck it it is even technically possible for a bunch of unelected guys to strip bodily autonomy from 100+ millions?

@boilingsteam Who needs new games when you can sell the old ones again?

Oh my, why most CLI apps in C++ suck *so hard* at parsing arguments? They don't can't call getopt() or what?

I see lots of crappy ad-hoc parsing that's as capricious as 2yo in a mall. High-level object oriented metaprogramming my ass..

doing it right

> Moreover, the DHT underlay mechanism is *general* and allows for additional underlay plugins to be defined. This will make it easy to run R5N over other P2P networks (like I2P) in the future.

@Hyolobrika @roboneko Virgin DNS:
Requires shittons of tiered hardware and links to withstand hordes of users asking for the same set of names shoveled into a few root zones.
Has a central authority to govern the zones and appoint regional registrars.
Names are a scarce resource and most of the sane ones are squatted.
Requires parallel PKI infra to prevent hijacking and stuff.
Occasionally you lose your name and/or certificate to scammers and/or governments.

Chad GNS:
The more users there are, the more traffic it can handle.
The network itself is your "secondary".
Everyone can share their zone for free.
Content is authenticated and can be anonymised.
Isn't actually required for the rest of the ecosystem to function, but you can share your KVs with friends anyway.

@roboneko @cy@mstdn.io @Hyolobrika@mstdn.io The blockchain solves Zooko's exactly the same way NFTs solve ownership.

@Hyolobrika @roboneko The thing is, domain names are merely a convention we take for granted. And service providers take for granted that we do.

We could have been putting PKEYs in URLs. Well, that's what TOR "hidden" sites do anyway, without any ICANN, ICAN'T or IFORCEU whatsoever.

Also, consider magnet links, ipfs links, git hashes, etc etc

The only humans who think "no" means "I'll ask again as soon as I feel like it and as often as I want" are toddlers, creeps and, apparently, some software shops.

@roboneko @cy@mstdn.io @Hyolobrika@mstdn.io Anonymity is on demand in the services. You can specify amount of hops or traffic to mix with. You don't need distinct TOR and plain TCP protocols, it's just a connection option.

@roboneko @cy@mstdn.io @Hyolobrika@mstdn.io Discovery is pretty long right now, tbh. They need way more participating nodes. But with a CADET circuit established, onion or not, you can have it interactive. I doubt it would work for twitch shooters, but something more reasonable can be fine.

Streaming DHT propagation can be quick too, after some warm-up.

@cy@mstdn.io No, ffs. DNS is irrelevant in gnunet. The whole bag of web crap can be left behind. That's the point.
