Fiona Hill says naive Musk is being played by Putin.

“Putin plays the egos of big men, gives them a sense that they can play a role. But in reality, they’re just direct transmitters of messages.."

@FAIR is here as well! Recommended follow; they're an important media watchdog group. Here's an example of their recent work (content warning: cites several transphobic news stories/op-eds):

I love her reminder that rendering something *accessible* isn’t about rendering it simpler, about reducing or essentializing. Instead, making accessible can add complexity and *beauty*, and can take on a proliferation of forms: annotations, transcripts, tactical objects, etc

For me the start of knowing of #FleetwoodMac consciously -- separate from the solo work of #StevieNicks, which I had a better grasp on -- was #Mirage and the first time I heard a new Fleetwood Mac song on the radio in a 'got it, this is them, and this is their new single' was this. #ChristineMcVie cowrote it with Robbie Patton, sang it with Lindsey B, but to my mind it is her song first and foremost. This was the gateway. It was a good one. Still is. RIP indeed. #music youtube.com/watch?v=E0sha1XfHx

Apropos of nothing, here's a reminder of a saying in Germany:
"If there's a Nazi at the dinner table and ten other people are sitting there talking to him, eleven Nazis are having dinner together."

If you can avoid COVID, avoid it. Especially if you’re already chronically ill.

I know you’re the only one in a mask. I know what the harassment is like when you’re by yourself.

And I’m tell you everything you are doing to protect yourself is worth it and you’re doing the right thing.

Seasonal reminder to NOT donate to the Salvation Army, no matter how much you like the brass band. They have an organisational track record of being homophobic, transphobic and anti-sex worker, and this ideology pervades how they "help" people. Donate your money somewhere else, or better still, directly to homeless people.

Both parts passed the House of Reps today. It now goes to the Senate tomorrow for a vote, and at least 3 GOP senators said they are on board to vote in the 7 paid sick days. Hopefully there are more, it needs at least 60 votes to pass there.

Give her what she really wants this holiday season. Death to the patriarchy, an ancient tome of curses from the forest witch, the hearts of her enemies, and deep pockets in every dress and pair of pants.

Saying not to bother with the favourite button on mastodon because it doesn't affect any algorithm is like saying not to say thank you to someone because no one else will hear.

Stop thinking in those old social media ways of engagement and visibility and algorithms and reach and audience and start thinking about being social.

"waah waaah mastodon is slow and glitchy sometimes, how can you bear it"

bitch I grew up with dial up. I scrolled endlessly through the hampster dance, half the jpegs broken. I spent an hour looking for and downloading a simple mp3. I waited my 54 minutes to continue watching a ropey stream of true blood with unsynced audio. I still use tumblr. you are like tiny baby

Lot :blobcatangry: s I don't know about this, but makes me wonder why he/they couldn't have forced the owners' hands instead of the workers.

"'It’s a moment where the public and the medical community are realizing that this is real. This is what happens after certain infections,' said Akiko Iwasaki, a professor of immunobiology at Yale University and a co-author of a review article on covid-19-related cognitive impairment.

'I think it's their time to be recognized,' she said."

Tomorrow, the SF Board of Supervisors could pass on first reading a use of equipment policy that would authorize the Police Department to use armed robots as deadly force under certain circumstances. The @eff wrote a great summary of the implications here: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/11/red-alert-sfpd-want-power-kill-robots

If you live in SF, reach out to you supervisor and ask them to vote against the proposal: https://sfbos.org/roster-members.

If you don't know who your supervisor is, use this link to find out: https://sfplanninggis.org/sffind/
