Say it with me: To control inflation, we must take aim at corporate profits, not working people.

@Az_ Not only profit but a lot of silicon valley thinks we can tech our way out of climate change.(and of course with profits) Tech will help but it won't be our savior. We have to rethink the industrial revolution mind set.

Its that tree in a lake again, this happens to be my favorite shot of it, out of many. It just connects with me and with what Wanaka is all about.

I stood in the freezing lake for hours and ended up buying dry pair of cheap shoes afterwards.

A pretty quiet morning here that day just me and a couple of friends.

Nobel laureate Joseph Stiglitz calls out Central Banks looking to cause recession and hurting marginalized people by raising interest rates. ↘️

"[T]he appropriate response to increased prices resulting from undue market power is better antitrust enforcement, and the way to respond to poor households’ higher rents is to encourage investment in new housing, whereas higher interest rates do the opposite." #Fediverse theguardian.com/business/2022/

Public health has always to be a project of the political left - it is intrinsic to it because it involves collective action and because it has to focus on social conditions in order to work effectively.

It will always be uncomfortable terrain for conservatives for these reasons.

@TomSullivan @dcjohnson I have always considered Libertarians to be more problematic than the Republicans. They are utterly devoted to keeping government wed to only one side of our human nature. We are a species made of greed and empathy. Both are needed. But we have created a construct in capitalism devoted to only one side of our nature. And those that want to incorporate it in our government send us down a perilous path.

About the #Fauci hate & anti-vax stuff,

It is essential to the libertarian/oligarch project to discredit the idea that government can make people's lives better. Even public health.

As more people reject govt/democracy, privatization & oligarch/corporate rule gets easier.

For more on this -- the anti-vax, anti-mask, anti-public-health propaganda is organized and funded.

Elon Hatred

So Elon just launched a million idiots after Fauci. He just turned the Corporation he swore would be a place of fairness into a hate machine aimed right at an individual. This may turn very ugly.

RT @Esqueer_@twitter.com

Did Elon just give Bari Weiss and Abigail Shrier access to everyone's DM's? This would be a clear violation of the Stored Communications Act by sharing with them. Not to mention, potentially handing the most transphobic "journalists" access to trans people is dangerous.

Perhaps the lesson is do not placate bad faith liars and propagandists intent on going harm to some.
By some I mean any subset not you yourself or those with whom you identify. When you placate and coddle and prioritize the harmful machine it will eventually come for you.

The corporate group that writes a large number of Republican bills in state legislatures - ALEC - is working on bills that would use the power of state governments to eliminate boycotts.

The initial bill was literally named the “Eliminate Political Boycotts Act.”

This is the definition of using the power of government to restrict free speech and free association.

It’s on Netflix.

“In the 1980s, many people in the medical community treated chronic fatigue syndrome as a punchline. Some doctors dismissed patients’ debilitating symptoms, including crushing fatigue and crashes after exercise, as figments of their imaginations. Media outlets even dismissively nicknamed the condition “yuppie flu,” since many cases were reported among affluent white women.”
