The more #Twitter followers folk have (or had) the harder it is (or was) to leave. Something changes - maybe around 5K followers - their identity gets so tied to follower count. They’re in thrall to the algorithm & can’t bear to lose their megaphone. This happens even to dear friends.
Some folk in their #introduction go “I hope to connect with many of my XXX Twitter followers as I can”. Forget your Twitter status, love.
It’s surely this that fuels the bird site’s toxic side. #TwitterMigration

@emmamitch Gawd, after I typed that I thought 'handle' was the wrong word. What I meant was - the algorithm that helps create large numbers of followers is addictive & makes you influential & it can be monetised, so it's very hard and brave to let go. I am definitely missing my own Twitter gang, and that was much more modest by comparison
