@amigalove i wasn't the original person who replied, but try this: 87912297
@amigalove @vga256 did you ask on the @newtontalk mailing list?
@amigalove
this has been bugging me so i spent an hour today trying to track down newthack 1.0.
best i managed was finding the original filenames of the file, originally found on these two ftp sites in 1996:
ftp://ftp.amug.org/pub/amug/bbs-in-a-box/files/newton/recent/newthack-1.0.sit.hqx
ftp://newton.sys.uea.ac.uk/Newton_Archive/ftp.amug.org/recent/newthack-1.0.sit.hqx
if someone has a mirror of amug, i suspect v1.0 would still be there
@vga256 Are you looking for 1.0 since that version has a known S/N to try?
@amigalove yes
@vga256 OK I'll poke around, too.
@vga256 I know of 1 person who actually paid for the license back in 1998 and loved the game. But... he lost the email to the sands of time with the code. @blakespot
@blakespot Do you happen to have a copy of NewtHack 1.0? Been looking for the old original version but can't seem to locate that PKG.
I can only find 1.1, and the 1.0 code doesn't work with it.
@amigalove @vga256 I've only got v1.1, and yep I paid for it long ago (1998) but don't have the code any longer, sadly.

@blakespot
Blake, do you think you could pull your PKG off that Newton and send it to me (sometime this year)? Wrap it up in a SIT file or something before moving it to a modern Mac. Your MBP will get mighty confused about a PKG file... I could then transfer it over move it over and see if it fires up. If it does, problem solved (and if others want it, the PKG could be shared rather than a S/N number).
I want to beat your high score. you only made it to level 2! I feel mighty.
@blakespot Oh wait! your screen says "not registered" noooo...
@blakespot FWIW I love the explicitly chosen green Eagle Creek pouch used as a stand. Is that its carrying case?
@amigalove Yep, that's what I used to carry the thing around in all the time.
@blakespot Back in the late 90s I worked at a now-dead retail shop for map maker Rand McNally. We sold tons of maps, domestic and international. We also sold a huge line of Eagle Creek products. I actually won retail dude of Xmas season one year, and wom 2 free large bags. One had carry-on wheels. They both converted into backpacks.
Eagle Creek was the best. I wish I knew the name of your little pouch - I'd pick some up off Ebay! Cool stuff.
@blakespot I will have more on this soon, but I now have (I think) 3 separate ways to unlock this to the FULL version. I'm traveling now but should be able to package things up by Monday.
@vga256 It's almost as if 1.0 has been surgically erased from our timeline.
@amigalove it’s not an easy find. just existed for a short time in 1996 before the author patched it to 1.1 a month or two later.
@amigalove @vga256 @newtontalk maybe register again? Mailman can be funny

@falken @vga256 @newtontalk I tried multiple times and it keeps rejecting the email, which is really weird because I’ve been a member for a long time and I’ve sent to it before. It’s still just sitting in my outbox.
