Excitedly updated M1 MacBook Pro to macOS Sequoia when I got back to a decent network.

Downloaded, installed, restarted, typed in pwd, screen goes black (with pointer on it, movable, in top left)… and then it restarts.

Safe mode results in login screen restarting itself, then Mac reboots on second pwd entry.

Current status, thought about restoring from Time Machine, but it looks like I am reinstalling from scratch… aargh.
