@Edent now cost isn't a factor, they just need them to return to a default on state when powered off and on again, so work with existing dumb switches too and I'd be sold

@Edent why did I think the stnd default after power on was off and uncommunicative? And you still need some sort of bridge/hub to talk to them from a phone?

@falken it depends. The WiFi ones don't need a hub. I have Lifx bulbs and they each have an IP address on my WiFi network. When they are powered off then on, they light up and connect.

ZigBee bulbs need a hub.

I don't think I've *ever* had a smart bulb that defaulted to off.

@Edent ohhh... Plan then. Order some cheap ZigBee RGB smart bulbs and install as direct replacement for dumb bulbs.
Save up for a USB ZigBee hub, and then play with in Docker later.
Should pass the Significant Other test if light switches still work
