You just got a legit movie offer for your book. What do you do first?

I say "thank you, my agent will be in touch." Then I call my literary agent who sets up a conference call with our media rights specialist and if he doesn't die laughing things progress slowly.

But there are a whole bunch of intermediate stages, starting with shopping agreements, then an option deal (with contract) before we get to the actual production contract (by which point the lawyers are involved).
