I am trying to set up a local mastodon server on ip address and http for my high school students. I can't get it working and would love the help of any mastodon admins out there!

@cubeofcheese @andypiper@maconaw.social if this is an authorised project on schools network, there's no reason not to use a domain name, and therefore be able to use https.
Https for just an IP is also possible, with a self signed certificate.
I'd look at those two options first
@cubeofcheese if you are running a service on school network, talk to IT.

What if kid A dislikes something kid B says on your project? You want support, not blank looks...

@falken but I will look at self signing a certificate. Is there anywhere you recommend to get me started?
@falken i am a teacher but not part of IT and I doubt IT would help me given that this is social media.
