@Migueldeicaza I recently lost my AWS account that I got the year AWS was launched. Their login verification emails began failing to arrive in my email. Their billing emails would arrive, but I could not login. I spent 9 months trying to interact with customer support & having friends who are AWS employees try internal contacts on my behalf to no avail. I finally cancelled the credit card it was billing to and they closed my account for non-payment. Fortunately I mostly only used it for data backups so I didn't lose much. Super weird.

@cutting This is the stuff of nightmares - I have this rational fear that something like this will happen to me at some point.

@Migueldeicaza @cutting I second that. one of the reasons I moved off the gmail and friends. a single point of failure is strong in monopoly tech

@krzyzanowskim @cutting What did you move to? I am considering doing some diversification precisely because of this recurring nightmare.

@Migueldeicaza @cutting fastmail for mail, calendar atc, backblazeB2 + local for backup and cloud storage

@krzyzanowskim @Migueldeicaza @cutting Also on Fastmail for a few years and it’s good.

Apple Photos is the one major service/app I can’t replace yet. Nothing else has both desktop and mobile apps that are good and sync non-destructive edits.
