#Matter is dead. Long live #Zigbee and #Zwave for #HomeAutomation #HomeAssistant #Homelab!

I gave Matter years of my live, sweat equity and precious real money. No more. This article tells it. I made the decision a couple days ago to dump my devices that require Matter. The battery issues, network fragmentation, latency, … it is all as the article says. Meanwhile, my Zigbee network has scaled nicely, batteries lasting up to 2 years, stable and responsive.

@meltedcheese interesting, thanks. I'm just starting and so far only have a couple of ZigBee sensors.

Next I'm trying to make sense of energy monitoring plugs (for UK) and looking for ones that do more than let you sample readings, but keep a history and cumulative consumption. This has been leaning me towards Matter devices.

Plugs won't have the battery issue, and I don't expect to have the other issues you have because I eshew big corps and cloud. My system will be all local. Any thoughts?

@happyborg @meltedcheese HA keeps track of my zigbee smart plugs consumption. No need to do on devices

@falken Thanks, I understand that. It's a convenience but less resilient so I'm looking into the more resilient cases.

@happyborg @falken The Meross matter wall plugs may stay for a bit longer because I do like the energy monitoring. But I really only need it for the big power consumers like my water conditioner (way high) and major appliances. I’m looking at electrical circuit clamp-on sensors for those that I can install at the panel. You are right, it is the battery powered ones that I am replacing. It’s not just the battery, but loss of performance as the battery goes down, including network sensors. If you stay with Matter, I recommend not changing matter hubs, especially if you have more than one. I think this is another cause of network instability.

@meltedcheese @happyborg not had a play with those sort of clip on sensors yet. Maybe when our PV arrives if the controller isn't open...
