Just infuriating: all set to watch a movie screener I was sent a link to for review. Enter password, all fine, then Vimeo, where it is hosted, demands I go through Starmer's bloody ridiculous age verification nonsense to watch it. So I can't access the private review film screener. Grrr.

Well done, Starmer, that really protected "the kids". Oh, wait, no it didn't, all it did was mean an Indie movie will now be deprived of the oxygen of shout outs and reviews because reviewers can't access it.

@LordWoolamaloo

I'm looking at getting a VPN, simply because I don't trust the security of the "Age Verification" shitware, or the reasons for requiring it, or anything this misbegotten administration has been doing for the last few years.

@Cadbury_Moose yes, been pondering getting a VPN too - I can't access a chunk of Flickr because of this same law, even though I have had a paying pro account for twenty years. No way am I giving sensitive info like a passport number to a third party. I can't trust them, and even if I could, they are going to be a prime hacking target and your stuff ends up with thousands of others for sale on the dark web. Sigh

@LordWoolamaloo @Cadbury_Moose I was going to suggest getting a VPN. Best do it soon, because there's a Lords EDM to amend the bill, forcing ID checks by the VPN providers too. I think it's tabled for next week.

@MiaMarkTwo @LordWoolamaloo @Cadbury_Moose which is bonkers, because basic tools like SSH or nc are "VPNs" so it makes illegal in the UK

@falken @MiaMarkTwo @LordWoolamaloo @Cadbury_Moose Right. Any VPS in a friendly jurisdiction can be turned into your own private VPN with one click (e.g. Outline VPN or Amnezia VPN).
