@blindeke this time was the charm
I've been a member of the xerces society for about two years and I'm really happy with their work. They are a charitable organization focused on invertebrate conservation. If you become a member not only will you be supporting a good cause but their magazine is amazing. They also have lectures and other events you can attend.
Invertebrates are often overlooked so I'm glad they're out there.
(If anyone know of an ant conservation group lemme know~)
@blindeke I think it is.
@levork Ooh, that looks delicious. Does it have a name?
@HelenBranswell My family all got either a fourth shot (me) or a covid infection (husband and kids) around August, so we've been waiting on the bivalent, but we're planning to get it next week. I hope there are others like us who are planning it this month to maximize protection for holiday gatherings, but realistically I suspect we're not enough to make much of a bump in the numbers.
@mike I mean, I'm also a white person so I'm only guessing here, but I would imagine that most people of color do start by assuming goodwill the first few times they hear that question, but over the course of a lifetime gaining experience with what range of people ask it and what range of things they mean by it, it starts to feel like goodwill isn't really a great assumption.
In 2011 I happened across the story of the 1970s "Stop de Kindermoord" protests in the Netherlands. It was forgotten history. No-one had covered this subject in the English language in decades and it was rarely mentioned in Dutch.
Protests about the lack of safety for children on the streets became a highly effective movement which fed into the safe cycling infrastructure which we have today. Nowadays, most Dutch children cycle independently in relative safety, to school as well as to visit friends etc.
I'm happy to see that this subject has been picked up by many other people in the last ten years, though sadly it still hasn't been translated successfully into other countries' policies.
