the fact that you have to do a bunch of extra steps to follow an account on a different server is super annoying and surely a solvable problem

@durrivedfunktor what extra steps? I search and follow. Is there some other way?

Follow

@ambihelical @durrivedfunktor same--just search and follow 😅. The only thing about being on different servers is you can't see someone's followers / following list when those people are on a different server 🤷‍♀️.

@fiery_zarzar @durrivedfunktor If you follow someone you can generally see their follow/following list via their profile, 2 clicks really. For at least one person I follow this doesn't seem to work, but they are on a "garage" server, so it may be misconfigured.

@fiery_zarzar @durrivedfunktor Also seems to be a difference whether you click on the followee in your feed vs using the Follows and Followers link. The former allows you to see only people also on your instance, the latter allows see all of them. Apparently because it brings up a page provided by the remote instance.

@fiery_zarzar @ambihelical at the moment, this is mostly how i am finding people to follow. if on different server, you have to open the list on that server, click follow, copy a link, paste it into search, search, etc

@fiery_zarzar @ambihelical maybe not an issue in long term but right now ppl who moved over from twitter are trying to partially rebuild networks

@fiery_zarzar @ambihelical the other example is when people post links to other servers, which is also happening a lot now for this reason. this might be less solvable, b/c the link won't know which server you're on

@fiery_zarzar @ambihelical i think it's still fixable if the link was clicked on *here* on mastodon tho, at least theoretically
