A moorland puddle, or an entrance to the underworld...
This is a trapdoor spider from the Foulden Maar fossil site in New Zealand. Spiders are incredibly rare as fossils but every now and then we get fantastic specimens (you can even see hairs on its legs!)

Very pleased with this #print of the #simurgh, I had a lot of fun with the border and the integument of the simurgh. I think I'll do a cormorant or dinosaur in this style next.

#BOTD Arthur Machen. An author and occultist, Machen is a hugely influential figure in the development of weird fiction and folk horror. Stephen King described his story The Great God Pan as "Maybe the best [horror story] in the English language." Other works include The Three Imposters and The Bowmen, which created the legend of the Angel of Mons. #horror #arthurmachen #weirdfiction #folkhorror
Good to see that the #beavers ๐ฆซ are thriving on the #RiverOtter in #Devon. Lots of signs of activity like this. Hopefully Iโll even get to see the elusive creatures one day.
A hidden fairy bridge, in Glen Creran Scotland. The bridge is about 1mt wide, and well off the beaten track up in a forest on a hillside, quite magical. I have posted this before but I was on another server then, so posting again. #MyOccasionalBridges #BridgesOfMastodon #Bridge #Fairy #Scotland

An overcast day, but a sense of wide-open freedom against a backdrop of ancient glacial stone, scarred & roughly hewn into ground & hills.
A splash of whiskey in the flask of coffee & a thick wedge of birthday gingerbread by the clapper bridge over Austwick Beck. Another turn around the sun!
Oh for the love of #flies itโs #TaxonomyTuesday
These amazing females are Clitelloxenia assmuthi & these #Phorids are termitophilous - they live with, & some feed on, termites
This is one of the 190 recorded termitophilous & other termite-associated Phorids - one of the most ecologically diverse family of animals on the planet!
