A courtyard floor at the Real Alcazar in Seville. Too beautiful to tread on.

Suspected badger sett. Stumbled across it today. Situated in a wooded park on sloping ground close to an open stretch of grass. Counted at least seven entrances, some with signs of disturbed earth outside. I wouldn’t have expected here but it’s not impossible, being on the edge of Epping Forest. Anybody familiar with setts able to comment on likelihood of a badger sett based on the pictures?

UK Government has found a way to mitigate rail strikes by flying in non-unionised replacement workers to carry out essential maintenance work on tracks. Apparently they work for peanuts.

Spotted this incarcerated fern eking out an existence in a small niche on a wall next to a canal on my way to work this morning. First office day of 2023.

. Spotted these three today rising out of the leaf litter like tiny sizewell reactors. Think they are pigskin puffballs but I’m no expert. In the second photo I like how the stump is becoming overwhelmed by fungi; a nice, healthy image of decomposition. .

Something for taken today and yesterday at Wanstead Flats. Not very colourful, but I like the seam of bracket fungi running the length of the tree trunk.

I used to live in a nice, safe neighbourhood, but that was before the decapitations started

Some photos from this morning’s walk. I think there are some on the twig with the droplet of water. The one with a knot and lateral twig extending from the main trunk looks like an ancient, rheumy eyed salamander with growing along it’s body. Also, an above and below shot of a cluster of fungi.

Nudge theory in action. £20 Waterstones Christmas gift card burning a hole in my pocket no longer. and definitely had an influence with these two ‘impulse’ buys today.

After countless mince pies and glasses of sherry, it’s those all too rare households that leave out portaloos on Christmas Eve that Santa really appreciates.

Something for — close up of my front garden wall this morning. Not sure if the meltwater on the ivy leaf on the left is due to my breath as I lent in for the close up.

Quick snap on this morning’s walk. Grass covered in frost and for a brief moment the rising sun was fiercely reflected in a couple of widows of a house.

The tomb of Christopher Columbus in the Cathedral of Seville, October 2022. The remains of Columbus are well travelled. Starting in Valladolid, Spain, they were moved to Seville, then Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), on to Havana (Cuba), and finally back to Seville in 1899.

Love the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. Here’s something for taken on May 2019. Wishing the small tree fern in my garden looked like these. It survived the extreme UK sumner temperatures but many more frizzled fronds than usual.
