Saindo do “armário”

Usualmente a expressão "sair do armário" significa algo bastante específico, mas eu decidi me apropriar dela e transformá-la em algo um pouco mais abrangente, mantendo o núcleo de significado que é geralmente vinculado a ela. O tal do "armário" proverbial, neste caso, não é o da não-binaridade (que, por si só, já compreende uma certa generalização do objeto). Para os poucos incautos que por acaso venham parar aqui e que, por algum motivo, não saibam…

Informática existe em virtualmente qualquer área da atividade humana.

Mas só médico é arrogante o suficiente pra se apropriar dela e inventar a "Informática Médica"

@volkris Foundation for example is a story that isn't transferrable to another historic context. Its story cannot be directly transposed to a less advanced stage of human history (for example). It's centered about the science of psychohistory and the reactions of people to it.

Another example would be Star Trek, which is centered around warp travel, contact with alien species and the technological future of Mankind. Transferring it into a non-technological context would ruin its main argument.

@volkris The Death Star is a valid point. However, keep in mind that the Death Star itself was never a plot point in the movie; the plans for it were but they could be substituted by any number of McGuffins. The fact that the story - which really revolves around the eternal strife between Good and Evil - happens in a technologically advanced environment is trivial, because the same story could be told in any other context (e.g. medieval Japan).

Oppenheimer and Star Wars

For a long time now I have sustained that Star Wars is not science fiction - and indeed it isn't. Based on the same criteria, neither is Oppenheimer a movie about science - at least, not explicitly. Science Fiction Science Fiction is a specific genre. Although it lacks an exact definition, it usually involved the exploration of Mankind's "future", based on scientific concepts.

Não é de hoje que eu digo que Star Wars não é Ficção Científica - e de fato não é mesmo. E, pelo mesmo critério, Oppenheimer não é um filme sobre ciência - pelo menos, não explicitamente. Ficção Científica Ficção Científica é um gênero específico. Embora não tenha uma definição exata, geralmente ela envolve a exploração do "futuro" da humanidade, a partir de conceitos científicos.

For a few years now I've been having a certain difficulty writing stuff for this blog. It's not like "back in the day": I just didn't went through the trouble of sitting down to write anything. It wasn't lack of things to talk about: I just didn't care. With everything going on with me during those days (and it was a lot), I would have plenty to write about here.

Faz alguns anos já que eu tenho dificuldade em escrever posts para este blog. Não é como antigamente; eu simplesmente não me dava ao trabalho de sentar pra escrever nada. Não era falta de assunto; era falta de interesse mesmo. Com tudo que me acontecia naquela época (e não era pouca coisa), teria assunto de sobra pra escrever muito aqui.
