For instance, one of the projects I'm working on at the moment addresses #universality in active #turbulence with #spectral techniques. A related project predicts a new microphase separation regime in inhomogeneous active #nematics by simulating the coupled #CahnHilliard, #NavierStokes, and #BerisEdwards equations. Another project develops a #FieldTheory of the #orderphobic effect, a nonspecific interaction between #transmembrane bodies anchored in a #lipid #bilayer.

Strikes at UK universities
For 4 yrs I have taught #LAWS10218 Criminologies of Atrocity w @mjgn92
For a 4th yr, students miss seminars because of strike action.
I am under no illusion. This is a consequence of my decision to strike. They lose. I lose.
But behind that are years of University "leaders" refusing to engage and
* suppressing wages
* presiding over inequalities
* increasing workloads
* casualising the workforce
* allowing pensions to be slashed

Thank you to friends and colleagues striking today. Fighting to make all our lives better, to allow us to see some future in academia. We aren't asking for much. Fair pay and better working conditions, particularly for ECR who suffer precarious contracts. There are so many dedicated staff, wanting to make a great student experience. Universities exploit this.

First for me. I am on Strike. #ucurising My wages have been reduced in real terms by 25% and pension cut. Hard to get sympathy for University Lecturers, I know, but we don’t live in Ivory Towers. Did #austerity cause #Brexit? In the past weeks there was much talk in the UK on a return of #austerity. I am a Prof of Economics at Warwick University and I wrote a paper in 2018 that shows how #austerity was instrumental to bringing about #Brexit. This is a means of #introduction on here.
