What's the difference between mastodon and plemora? I've thought of maybe switching but I don't know what it has over masto

#mastodon #plemora

@wolfen Plemora is a self-hosting tool that you'd run on hardware you own.

@Zero_Democracy Do I have to self-Host? I can't join an instance?

@wolfen It's compatible with Activitypub and the frameworks that Mastodon uses. You'd be able to interact with the fediverse, but you wouldn't have the same type of federation.

@wolfen IIRC some people run small ones they let their friends into, but it's not for mass collective use the way Mastodon instances are. It's meant to be very distributed and peer-to-peer.

@Zero_Democracy that looks interesting but the documentation about it is super sparse or not really clear :/ I would have loved to self host. Plus I don't think I can fiddle with the all in one machine my internet provider gave me

@freemo @Zero_Democracy thanks fam, I might just go on a smaller instance I'd just need to find one. Probably something witchy/Sci-fi or anarchist

@wolfen @Zero_Democracy I run my own instance just for me :) If i knew a witchy one that was a free speech zone I'd join too
