I'd like to brainstorm with a few people about modernized communication protocols for text based chat. I have some ideas dancing about in my head and I'd like to get more input from others. Mainly this involves using ActivityPub or possibly Merkel DAG/PubSub in a manner similar to Orbit. Matrix's approach is also of interest.
Wonder if I should do it here or get on Matrix/Discord/Whatever 🤔
The idea I'm currently playing with involves a free, opensource IM service that would be a hybrid of federated servers with decentralized identity - in that the identity is kept client side like on Tox and Retroshare rather than on any of the federated server, thereby creating an identity that can jump from server to server with no interruption or data loss.

@polychrome You cant do that on federated social media right now. How do you get around the problem of authenticating your identity then?
