@freemo Suppose firstly that premises/claims/whatever were to be distilled into units, such that whenever they may be referred to, they may merely be referred to by way of using a "name" that the author assigns to that unit. The relations between such units may then be more readily perceived, read, and thought about, which may, themselves, be assigned names.
As with a visual debugger, the consideration of all of these points may thus be considered in turn, clearly and more pointedly.
