after thinking on it some today, i'd honestly prefer my smartphone to be closer to just a phone and my magical internet-powered omni-device to be closer to a pocket-sized laptop (and for these purposes to not be necessarily just merged into the same device)

like, pocket PCs aren't really a thing (on any significant scale at least) anymore because they were overtaken by smartphones, but smartphones are actually pretty shitty at being tiny computers for anything but the most simple tasks (which is more the OS's fault than the hardware's fault)

really, the fact that you have to basically break the way the device works normally ("root" or "jailbreak") to do a lot of the sort of stuff that's pretty basic to be able to do on general-purpose computers says it all

@kinsey Buy a phone with android on it that comes rooted? There are plenty on the market and means you dont need to "break" its usual behavior
