I was looking at one-room schoolhouses and it occurred to me how similar the aesthetic is to tiny #cabins

This one struck me as particularly endearing

Couldn't find an original source for this, but it's been labeled as "an old schoolhouse in Montana, 1922" and similar

It's almost the same size as my cabin design and very similar in look

Since the chimney in a lot of these seems to be away from the edge walls, I always wondered whether the stove was in the middle of the classroom

Indeed it is!

@cypnk Where is this? Also why is the chalk board opposite the direction of the seats?

@freemo This is on Long island Museum property in Stony Brook, New York

I've been to that area, but I haven't seen this particular school. I think there were chalkboards at both ends of the classroom

@cypnk Ahh so its a historic school, no longer in use. Still cool!

@freemo Oh yes, these are very old. But I think a few of them operated well into the 1950s in the US, especially in rural areas

But I think there is a small revival of these old schools happening (with better fire safety, of course!)
