For all the new users comign to QOTO from twitter I just wanted to let you know we have an option front end you can use that looks and feels exactly like the twitter front end. Just go to halcyon.qoto.org once there use the following format for your login name (remove the spaces): @ username @ qoto.org

@Sander ohh you probably tried to use it for your own instance. thats intentional it can only be used for qoto.org users

@freemo Ah I see! Indeed, the system couldn’t create a txt for Toot.World

@Sander yea we created the qoto.org text file then locked down the data folder so it didnt have write permission. In this way only qoto.org users can login. Sorry. I'm not opposed to opening it up to other instances to use though, but there are other instances that do that so I didnt think it was needed.

@freemo No prob at all! I don’t like the frontage of the interface and the fact that it isn’t responsive😬

@Sander I dont personally use halcyon either. Its really just there to accommodate twitter users who might be attached to the interface they are used to.

@freemo It’s great you can offer it to those who like to use it :blobfingerguns:

Follow

@Sander Yea we have a lot of added services like nextcloud, peertube, and soon funkwhale and pixelfed.

@freemo Does Nextcloud also have the ActivityPub implemented? I tried Pixfed yesterday but there are just to many bugs and unfortunately not ready for a production server

@Sander yea nextcloud is ActivityPub we didnt release our server just yet (still testing) but you can get a sneak peek here: cloud.qoto.org

@freemo Nice! Used it some years ago but that’s sounds great! Unfortunately the url gives me a blank

@Sander thats odd, the url works for atleast a dozen other people around the world. I wonder why that would be...

@freemo Thanks! May I ask how do you pay for the server? Community support?

@Sander I make enough money to support it myself. Donations yes most of which come from me.

@freemo I see, same for me since TootWorld isn’t a very populated instance yet.. What do you do for a living? #Netherlands

@Sander I work for a few clients from the USA but i work remotely from the netherlands (I refuse to pay dutch taxes, their insane). I do software.

@freemo Nice :) Do you also have some clients from the Netherlands or US only? Haha I know, insanely high.. But on the other side, we have it quite good here I think! What do you think of NL so far?

@Sander This is my third time living in the netherlands. Each time was for a few months before going home. I love it each time. I also will be the first to admit that while the taxes are out of control you do, at least, spend your taxes well. No wasted cash on wars, most of it goes towards public works. So it could be way way worse.

I love the netherlands. I said since my first time here that its my favorite country and dutch people are by far my favorite people. It feels more like home to me than the USA where I grew up. The only reason i wasnt able to stay the last two time sis I make about 1/3 here what i would in america. So only way i can survive here is with an american job.

@freemo Well said! Thank you! I think growing up in the Netherlands is a solid start but I dream of moving to the States for the last 10 years.. I want to change something in this world and for that you need people or capital.. But unfortunately you can’t get rich in the Netherlands😬

@Sander I honestly cant stand americans. They all feel like they need serious psychotherapy. They tend to have the maturity of a toddler with constant temper tantrums if you disagree with them. It is very unbearable for me to be in america. With that said, if you need capital or business connections it really is the only option sadly. It just isnt good for my mental health being around that.

@freemo @freemo Wow, you sound pretty serious about US citizens! But I’ll guess you should know ;)

I think most people in the Netherlands are always busy and in a hurry(me included) but overall it’s pretty safe here

@Sander Dont get me wrong, there are those 1% of US citizens who are good people. But they are hard to find. Also if you arent the type of person who seeks out intellectual diversity and conversations you may not expiernce it as much.

The Dutch are very much a live and let live group. As long as you arent hurting other people then they usually wont be bothered by whatever you do. When i mvoed in my dutch neighbor came over and remarked "I knew you guys moved in because I hear a lot of noise over here".. to which i responded "I'm so sorry, I didnt realize we were being so loud, ill try to tone it down". She then responded "no no no, its ok, it means your having fun"... man I love dutch people :)
