The Los Angeles #Dodgers are undefeated since the power went out.
@wilw I feel like there is a joke in there some where but I need to know more about sports to get it.... #NerdProblems
@freemo Heh. The joke is that the power went out last night, and their bullpen managed to not blow the lead today.
@wilw haha, thanks for the clarification :) Hope it diidnt ruin the game for you, I know you can get pretty into it sometimes.
@freemo I'm a very casual Dodgers fan, nowhere near how passionate I am about my beloved Los Angeles Kings. But I love playoff baseball, and it would be nice if my childhood team is in the mix again.
@wilw Ahh nice, you live out in LA or just love the team for other reasons?
I'm originally from philly (Still have a house there) but living in the netherlands. So my loyalty is to the philly teams (particularly the Eagles and the Phillies). Though I only really watch the important games.
@freemo I've lived in LA my whole life, and my family (which was deeply entrenched in LA politics until about 1960) was heavily involved in the Dodgers' move to LA, as well as the placement and construction of Dodger Stadium. I literally grew up around Dodger baseball, so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
@wilw That makes sense. The older I get the more I realize just how powerful a force nostalgia is, for good and bad. Makes perfect sense, I think I care about my teams at all for nostalgia reasons too.
I have to say, I've spoken to a few times now (both here and on twitter) and I have though about the social/psychological perspective of what it must look like from your end (and mine) as a well known person. You'd probably not been interested but each time we have an exchange it always has me lost in thought on what is probably going through your head on the other side of the screen. Its probably too much to go into exactly what I mean, more than you'd want to read anyway. Just saying you had me pondering things lately in that regard is all.
@freemo Being well known has its advantages and its disadvantages. It's sort of part of my life no matter what I do, so I just try to live the life I want my kids to emulate, and do my best to be a good person. And there's so much hateful trashfire online, it's nice to have random conversations with kind people whenever the opportunity arises.
@wilw I'll say this, you have more patience than me. Back when my AOL Instant Messanger had got out on the news I was getting about one message every 30 seconds for a good year. I had to eventually just ignore the world. I can't imagine a lifetime of that, everywhere you go :( I'd want my damn peace.
@LWFlouisa reactivating what?
@LWFlouisa There are some people who are just off the handle when it comes to moderating anything they disagree with.
@freemo So it wasn't just my perception then?
So it's not a Mastodon thing as a whole?
Cause I deleted both my accounts from my website. I can readd one though.
@freemo Rather doing a witch hunt (not my style) I just got to wonder why someone would ban just for being off topic.
How am I suppose to know what the topic is?O_o
@freemo Well for example, I don't think I've ever been banned on GNU Social or Diaspora. Certainly not Peertube.
@freemo Well it wasn't Mooncalf I guess, she's not even on hackers.town.
@freemo I think I'm more confused than ever now. I might have to say goodnight, and rest my brain.
@freemo This one admin felt like deactivating merely because I was off topic.
I think I'm seriously going to have start blacklisting some non free speech domains.
