@Ajz@mastodon.nl When you say "very informal" I suspect, and correct me if i'm wrong, what you really mean is slang. It isnt just informal but not proper english.. when i think of formal vs informal i think of explicitly respectful vs neutral, but both formal and informal are usually technically "correct".
To use an english analogy "hows it going" is informal, "how are you sir" is formal, and "yo, how's it" would be slang and improper english, but understood and not unheard of among friends.
But thank you, that makes perfect sense. If you cant tell my Dutch is extremely limited. I have lived in the netherlands 3 times now, less than a year each time. I keep trying to learn the langauge and no matter how hard I try I cant get past the basics.
