@Liberty4Masses Well again that depends on context and who is using it. If the person speaking is themselves religious it most likely means "something ordained/encouraged by god". To someone who is not religious likely means the same as reverence.
The important part here though is even to the religious types something being sacred does not make that something a religion. Saying democracy is sacred does not make democracy a religion anymore than saying life is sacred makes all life a religion. It simply demonstrates the level of respect one has for the subject.
@freemo @Liberty4Masses the quote here is just a meme, but I think you can seriously argue that the State is some kind of god for many people nowadays, most notably some people instinctively look up on it for righting up wrongs and retribution, as if a violent organisation made to fight civil unrest and foreign invasion could even remotely be capable of that
