Except you have it completely backwards. Historically the definition of Gender was not equivelant to sex, it described ones outward expression of femininity and masculinity.
So what you call "modern liberal" is actually the classic and historic definition of gender. It is the people who want to redefine "gender" to mean the same as "sex" who are the ones trying to create a modern redefinition. That would be the real "brainwashing" then, the people who want to redefine the word to mean sex.

Of course it isnt scientific, nothing about gender is or ever has been scientific. Just like most words in the english language it isnt scientific, bur rather linguistic.
Sex on the other hand, being an entirely different word, is scientific. It also serves a very different purpose/definition.
