From what artwork I've seen 2e could have been the most imaginative without nearly as much goofiness of the earlier days!

I bet I would die over and over trying anything that didn't hold my hand quite as much as 3.x... and that one's pretty lethal on its own! People like to complain about "rocket tag" at high levels (ie battles usually last 1-2 rounds, whoever winning initiative winning the fight), but "rocket tag" began at level 1! What does a player do when a CR 1/2 orc or kobold with a battle-ax or spear crits him? Roll a new character!
