@freemo congrats! I'm still working on hitting a 100 🤣
@Wetrix Quality over quantity :)
@freemo this is true. I prefer slow steady growth and people that follow for a reason. At least it means I'm tooting stuff worth interest or meaning vs spamming for attention etc 🐹
@Wetrix Thats far more important.
I get about 70 new followers a day, 50 of whom are just new signups to my instance that I likely will never hear from again in 2.3rds of those cases. The others tend to be genuine people from around the fediverse, but even then not always the most engaged followers in terms of percentages.
My feed can be hard to keep up with to the point that I just stop replying to a lot of the noise.
@freemo yes for sure. That's why I try to keep my feed slim 😛
I like to engage people. Conversation, intellect, ideas etc.
@Wetrix I only follow about 200 people for exactly the same reason.. It just seems the people who follow me have something else in mind.
If i werent a figure head for QOTO and a moderator I'd like lock down my follower count. But I have to play a different role for the sake of the server really.
@freemo what is MOTO about?
@Wetrix You mean QOTO? Just a place for STEM interested individuals or professionals to hang out. We dont have any topic requirements though or enforce a feed much beyond showing respect for others.
We basically want to get away from the childishness and mutual attacks and deal with people arguing our disagreements as STEM professionals do, respectfully and using evidence and no personal attacks. Presuming there is a disagreement at all, most of the time we just post nerdy videos we all enjoy.
@freemo sounds like a good place.
The problem with most people is they don't know the difference between a debate and an argument.
A debate is just that. Conversation with different points of view.
An argument is when people make it personal.
@Wetrix I dont think anyone has seen an actual debate in a 100 years :) I'm exaggerating of course but truth is mature debates are fairly non existent these days, at least on the internet.
Even in person they only tend to exist in the USA and the UK between people who still mostly agree. The rest of europe is ok though
@freemo I like how the Asian countries debate in politics and next thing u know there's chairs flying and it's an all out brawl right in the house of Commons 🤣
@Wetrix Americans have the WWF for that :)
