creating a custom windows installation iso was a huge pain in the ass, but it worked which at least feels rewarding.

I'd imagine it's much easier on linux, are there any popular tools for that?

@igeljaeger depends on the distro. Each distro tends to have its own toolchain they use for creating their ISO. Its usually the same toolchain the devs use to make the official ones.

On many distros though, like archlinux, there is absolutely no need as the install ISO doesnt contain the packages to be installed it really just gives you something to boot to and you pull in everything you need from the internet.
