So apparently right now M.T has something like 110% more users than us (more than double), yet only ~20% more **active** users (users who have posted within the last 2 months).
Based on current growth rates our active user count s likely going to surpass theirs by the end of the month too. That would officially make QOTO the largest technology oriented instance in the fediverse.
Good to know we are doing something right at #QOTO :)

Well, if we're going by active users, #fosstodon is right there with you (2.08k vs 2.06k)
I think we're *all* doing something right 🎉
@codesections Oh you guys are great, didnt mean it like that. Who knows maybe youll beat us :)
Our growth rate has just been unusually high lately since there has been a lot of chatter about us. So excited to see the accelerated growth is all.
@codesections Yea I know a lot of people who have very negative opinions of large instances as just a default bias.
Some people are the opposite. When I first joined (I am the founder of QOTO btw) I was on Mastodon.social. I picked it entierly because it was the biggest instance. That was also out of ignorance though as I didnt understand federation yet and I thought that might give me some advantage in terms of reach (And in some ways it does)
For me its become more about the quality of the feed first and the quantity second, but both are good. We have done some unique things at QOTO to try to improve that, one of which is having a special hashtag built into our source code (We dont run standard Mastodon but a custom highly edited fork) to show up in the menu, along with a few dozen other unique features. So I hope it might make it easier to keep the feed high-quality as we grow large.
