I love it. The protestors thought they had a right to block this guys travel, as a result he got his bike trashed and he didnt hurt anyone (thankfully).. this guy is a hero! Considering all the videos I've seen of people trying to drive slowly through crowds getting their car trashed I'd say this guy is completely justified, even if it may have potentially injured a protestor (thankfully it didnt)
@penny The police already caught him, he is not being persecuted.
People have every right to the road, but the road is a shared resource what they dont have is a right to deny access to the road to others. If protesters want to cross the road or be in the road, they have that right, but only so far as they also permit others to use the road too.
@penny Yes they are your roads, just like they are roads belonging to the driver going about his business. **you** do not get to take the road away from other citizens.
In the case of blockading roads for events, that is usually done on side roads that are not critical for transportation, roads you can easily navigate around. If you are taking over a main road needed for people to get to work and the hospital and to live, then no, you do not have that right, they do not belong solely to you.
I 100% support what this person did, its his roads too and this barricade was not done in consideration of that as other sanctioned barricades are.
@penny When did I say he was going to the hospital? I said people use the roads to go to work and go to the hospital, even f he was just going food shopping, he has a right to do so, they are his roads too.
The people endangered themselves by putting a bike in his path and by not providing clear signs for an alternate route to begin with.
If you have the right as a mob to barricade a street and take it over then others have the same right to take it down. Thats the result when you rely on anarchy.
@penny I don't? I have friends who live nearby where it happened in portland. I do not say things if I dont have a reason to know them to be true Please dont tell me what I know.
@penny I didnt say I knew the protestors. I said I knew people who live near where this happened. Many were happy with what this guy did, some were not.. But everything I said so far about them not putting up detour signs or engaging in the proper safety prerequisites for a barricade are all true.
@penny Again, no, when people legally baracade a road there are limits, they need to be side roads with clearly marked detours for safety, none of that was observed here. If this were some side road with a detour around it i could give that to you, it wasnt
@penny PArades are scheduled, last for a few hours, and have clearly marked detours to go around it. None of the usual safety precautions taken for a parade were taken here to ensure people could still get to work, the hospital, or go about their lives.
I have no problem with baracading off a street for an event, but there are processes for the safety of others and none of them were done here.
@penny I do care about safety. I have seen **far** too many examples of people trying to get to where they need to be, slowly driving through a crowd, only to be physically attacked or their car destroyed. This guy was **not** safe, nor were the proper steps taken to let him be safe. He was in a dangerous situation and when the mob starts to surround the car and throw stuff in his way, he reacted for his own safety, as well he should have.
If the barricade had been done with the proper procedures and he could have just went one block over and driven around following some detour signs then I would happily say he was in the wrong.. but thats not how it played out.
@penny It isnt about if he understands he was suppose to be there or not.. There was no proper detour for him to get around, thats the main problem. He did not have the option to go a block over and drive around, nor was the detour route marked. Therein lies the problem, when you actually apply to baracade a location it is ensured there is a safe detour to get around should someone have an emergency and very clear signs to state what they are, which of course applies to people without emergencies as well but is particularly important should someone have an emergency.
The reason this group didnt do that is because this group had no intention of making it easy for people to get around. They specifically picked a location with the intention of inconveniencing as many people as possible. Thus the issue
@penny His truck was abandoned far outside of where the barricades were, it did not act as a barricade. He also only had to replace a tire, thankfully the asshole who used his motorcycle had nothing but shredded metal in the end. So I'm ok with that ending. Especially since he is not being persecuted.
