This is so cool. With just a little bit of modification using a single 3d printed part glued to the side of the head of a 3d printer this japanese team managed to create a fully autonomous robot that can basically built its own tools, pick them up, and then use them to manipulate its environment.

@freemo The goal has always been to create robots that can create more robots from natural resources. Just send them to Mars and they’ll build more robots who will build cities. As they wear out, they’ll just build more.

Now we’re close, I don’t think anyone thought about AI. Who knows the robots will look favorably on humans wrecking their cities with their slimy selves? @Science

@freemo definitely cool. With a bit of tweaking you get some amazing DIY automation at a decent price point.
