@stux hey buddy, isnt your server running a rocketchat instance? Got a few questions if so.
@freemo Hi hi♥️😸 not anymore! We switched back to Matrix
But what’s the question? Perhaps I can help ![]()
@stux was just curious if you liked it.I am in the process of setting up matrix myself right now :)
@freemo Yess very much so! Personally I like it better than Matrix
But the people spoke and they wanted Matrix soo yeahh😸♥️
@stux why do you like it better than matrix it? Can it interoperate with other instances like matrix (matrix server to matrix server)? Can it do it across different types of services (matrix server to IRC or gitter etc)?
@freemo Yes it can! :)
But it has a loooot more intergrations, I think it’s much faster and at least a decent admin/mod UI 😃
@stux The UI is likely way better from what I saw.. but from what I can tell the matrix software has more admin features it just isnt accessible via the UI, you have to learn the commands.
For example matrix rooms can be made ethereal on a room by room basis
When you say a lot more integrations can you give an example of one?
@freemo Are you talking about Element or RC now?
I guess so, but checkout RC admin first! I think you’ll be surprised
Uhh, yeah! IRC, almost all bridges, bots, games, RTC uh and some many more shizzle
@stux cool! I'll have to take a closer look at RC.. but seems matrix is more popular and so its likely my goto regardless.
You can do some stuff via this one
Correct me if im wrong but that looks pretty basic, just handling user management?
Still useful mind you as user management is probably the one thing where you'd almost need a GUI and command lines would be tedious. But point is, based on the screen shots this just represents a very small speck of the admin commands available.
I dont think you need to use the API.. i havent figured out how the commands are issues yet but I get the sense you enter them directly in the UI.
I am curious if the admin UI handles arbitrary commands somehow... still figuring all this out. I am learning about what the commands are as I set up the server through comments int he config files. Just not clear how they are issued yet.
@freemo
You have to include it, if you have installed synapse manually.
If you are using the .deb package, it is included in the systemd servicefile:
