I don't understand what the goal is with prescription medicine advertisements. I've never once told my doctor “I want this medicine,” I always just go with what they prescribe. Do they expect doctors to see it and just randomly decide “hey I'm gonna start giving people this”? Or are there really dummies that (try to) tell their doctor to prescribe them some random drug they saw in a commerical?

@nytpu Oddly enough I can say the opposite. While I've never wanted a medicine from what I saw on TV 100% of the time I had a problem I studied it in depth and looked up the medications and treatments and decided which one I wanted before I saw my doctor.

That said the doctor of course would give me feedback on if my choice was a good one, and often I'd consider that advice and augment my choices. But it always seems to be me taking the lead on deciding what medication I wanted to go with for my problems.
