Why is it called a "wake" when someone is dead?
@stux It comes from the old Celtic tradition of a vigil where people would "stay awake" to guard the body of the dead 24/7 until it was buried. Thus the term "wake".
@stux A quick search I found this old Irish picture of a wake back when staying awake to watch over the body until it was buried was still a thing.
