Some Russian idiots sneak into the Chernobyl reactor and swim in the waste water in the basement in an attempt to get into the main radioactive chamber... I wonder if these guys have cancer yet...
@freemo the author of xkcd wrote a book called what if in which he analysed this very scenario. Iirc water acts as a great moderator to slow down the radiation and unless they dived to close proximity to the rods they would probably die from security firing on them rather than the radiation.

@smartbrain Th issue wouldnt be the radiation directly, it would be from swallowing some water or absorbing it with radioactive particles that then decay inside your body.
