It's a combination of ignorance and denial.
The problem is that the idea is dehumanizing. And, dehumanization leads to atrocities.
Seen this way, we can substitute many other kinds of "different" into the scenario - and see that the ignorance, the denial, the dehumanization, and the atrocities remain consistent elements.
Understood as a system, we can look at each element for potential mitigations.

It just occurred to me "you would allow?" may have been an "if you were moderator" question.
I do moderate digital spaces, and have since the late 1980's days of dial-up.
And, in that context the answer is "no" - and because the pattern is very predictable, and the contents of it are not useful to the community.
