Ya know... I am a little surprised that our president just 2 presidents ago was the first black man in history to be president... seems that was way late, a little surreal to think that **I**. as young as I am, voted for the first black president.
Some years ago, I ran a business with friend who was black. I was round his place one night whilst there was a programme about the USA in the 50 and 60 on TV. It occurred to me that, during the time I had known him, there were quite a few places in the southern states of the USA where it would have been, if not unlawful, at least inadvisable for me to go into a bar with my partner for a beer. Maybe there still are.
@freemo This post may come off as incendiary, my apologies in advance if it does, since this touches on some sensitive subjects over there in Yankistan.
IIRC said president was of a mixed race. I recall this being an issue during the initial stages of his presidency; Too black for the cops. Too white for the blacks. Despite all this, he is seen as the first black president.
I know this doesn't apply to the Netherlands, because we discriminate on the nation of birth instead of race, but entertaining this notion for a second and transplanting it on Geert Wilders of the PVV, his mum was Indonesian and dad some Dutchie (and you see this in Mr Wilders his face). Using US logic here this would making him an Indonesian, thus having like the UK a diverse PM.
