Man what is going over on facebook.... The past 2 weeks every comment I leave on random posts (usually groups i dont follow) wind up getting 1K to 5K likes.
I wonder if the algorithm finally figured out i was loosing interest...

I learned that it's a really painful website, even more painful than the twitter

This is true, but i've read articles that facebook is explicitly boosting posts with "hot takes" and other stuff provoking people to start shitting to increase engagement, so i choose to stay away from it.

@lonelyowl the algorithms generally prioritize engagement. Decisiveness tends to get you engagement.
I suppose it depends on how it's designed.
I think it would be fair to say that "like" or "like and repost" is more likely to be positive engagement, while "comment with no like" is more likely to be negative engagement.
The negative engagement (massive holywars) is lead people to spend more time on the website, so if your goal is maximize "whatever kind of engagement" it's easier to promote the negative one.
@lonelyowl sadly no because a device comment is not one everyone universally hates, that wont create much debate. A divisive comment is likely to be one that half the people strongly support while the other half strongly condemn.
Supporting Trump or Biden is likely to be far more divisive than thinking we should bring back slavery.
Well yes, i could be wrong on the details, but the point remains, you can separate the joyful posts from the provocative, and raise the level of the latter
