Less effort, but also less considerate. Muting you would mean they have written you off, by politely asking you to be respectful and not to engage them on this further (which you apparently disregarded and did anyway showing your true colors here).

Thats the difference, a normal person will just politely disengage when something doesnt interest them. A toxic person will start screaming about blocks and muting and personal attacks on the way out.

The difference here is stark, and its clear your on the toxic side of the fence here, along with the OP. Once someone politely asked you to disengage, and you felt the need to double down, that said it all.
