So all four senior members of the British Royal Family have suspended public engagements until further notice yet everything continues as normal, or as normal as things get on this deeply weird and dysfunctional wee island.
Every single one of the Windsors could cease all duties forever and barely anyone would notice apart from some sad royal gossip obsessives.

I mean, i dont think anyone argues to keep the royalty because they actual serve a vital function in the operation of the government.
In fact the only political power the royalty really have are the ability to dissolve the parliment and have them re-elected. But that hasnt been exercised in quite some time.
They are a figure head, they are kept for symbolic reasons and as a matter of history, nothing else. That is by design.
That depends on the context in which we discuss it. For brits its brits. But we have many other people governed by historic monarchs where this would apply.
