Why would I want a company to be forced to support you for the rest of your life if you get a long-term illness.

There is a problem here if a teacher cant afford the right insurance to take care of this, a very real problem. But the idea that a person should have infinite sick days and that its on the company is not the direction to go.

@freemo I absolutely agree and just don't understand it myself.

@lovelylovely Its a very european attitude that has infected the american way of thinking sadly, this idea of companies as surrogate parents, yea its bizarre.

Dont get me wrong as someone who runs a company I do run it in a very generous fashion. But this is by choice and would never want to see companies forced into it.
